- Pogba now has left Man Utd on a free transfer
Paul Pogba has said the change of coaches at Manchester United affected his performances but he does not regret moving to Old Trafford.
Pogba, who recently left Manchester United on a free transfer, has opened up on his six-season stint with the Red Devils that began in 2016. The French midfielder scored 39 goals in 226 appearances for Manchester United during his second spell at the club and won just two trophies – the Europa League and League Cup, both in the 2016-17 campaign.
While Manchester United reportedly offered Pogba a contract extension, the 29-year-old midfielder chose not to accept it and decided to return to Juventus.
At a press conference in Turin, Pogba spoke about the choices he made in his life and said he was "very happy" with them, before adding "that's life." Pogba went on to say that he learned a lot during his years at Manchester United, where he grew and became "a man when I was there."
"It was not a mistake -- not at all. I was very happy there but you never know what might happen. Maybe if I had won something different, maybe also the choices would have been different, but now I'm very happy to be here and I'm glad that I'm back here at Juventus," Pogba said at the press conference, according to ESPN.
Manchester United had as many as four coaches during Pogba's stay between 2016 and 2022: Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick. The French player added that with the coaches changing every year, he found it "difficult to adapt," while he also suffered from various injury issues.
"When you play in a team and you change the coach every year, it's quite difficult to adapt... It's quite difficult to cope with that. It's true I also had some injuries, and these probably influenced my mentality -- the fact that I couldn't play, the fact that I couldn't have the same rhythm that I had before when I was playing 90 minutes every single match," added Pogba.
Poga spent four seasons a Juventus from 2012 to 2016, where he won four Serie A titles in a row, along with two Coppa Italia titles. In 178 appearances for Juventus, in all competitions, Pogba netted 34 goals and 40 assists. He rose to fame at the Turin stadium, which saw him move to Manchester United at a then-record fee of $105 million.
Juventus have not won the Serie A since 2020. They finished fourth in the league last season for a second consecutive campaign. They also suffered a Round of 16 exit from the Champions League for the third straight time.
