Starting in 2022 Universal films will be found on the streaming platform Peacock once the studio’s partnership with HBO expires at the end of the year.

On Tuesday, the companies announced all Universal Filmed Entertainment Group’s films, including upcoming movies like “Jurassic World: Dominion,” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” will begin streaming on the platform around 120 days after its theatrical release.

The partnership with Peacock means all Universal, DreamWorks Animation, Focus Features, and Illumination theatrical releases will be streaming on the platform.

Other films set to be released by Universal and later stream on Peacock include “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and a new film by Jordan Peele, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his movie “Get Out.”

Before the pandemic, movies released in theaters wouldn’t appear on cable channels until about 200 days after their theatrical releases. While the new deal with Peacock gets the films to the platform faster, movies will still undergo their usual PVOD and rental window before making a debut on the streaming service.

NBCUniversal launched Peacock in 2020, becoming another competitor among streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, Hulu, and HBO Max.

“Since launching Peacock just one year ago, we have seen incredible viewership of movies and continue to expand our catalog with a range of films for every fan and occasion,” Matt Strauss, the NBCUniversal Chairman, Direct-to-Consumer and International, said in a statement.

“Universal Filmed Entertainment Group has been a fantastic partner and we are excited to not only bring their amazing slate of blockbuster films and beloved franchises to Peacock in the first-pay window but also provide a steady stream of fresh, original films exclusively for Peacock customers throughout the year.”

Along with the extensive Universal films catalog, subscribers will also begin to see exclusive content developed and produced exclusively by Peacock.
