House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., reportedly yelled at a young White House receptionist after an intense meeting with then-president Donald Trump wherein the latter called her a “third-rate politician,” according to a new book by former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.
In her book “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” Grisham wrote that after the confrontation with Trump in October 2019, Pelosi went to retrieve the phones she and others had to give up before the meeting started, The Hill reported. “That was when Pelosi seemed to blow up,” Grisham wrote.
She revealed that Pelosi “went ballistic” at that time. “We can’t even trust you people with our phones! I should never have given you guys my phone! I know you bugged it!” Pelosi yelled, according to Grisham, who also said that it was protocol to surrender phones before a meeting.
The former White House press secretary went on to write that the receptionist was “caught off guard by the early departures” so she “stumbled around looking for the correct phones.”
Grisham wrote in the book that Pelosi “started calling the young woman incompetent and raged that there was not an umbrella available to her so she could go out to the microphones in the rain and berate the president in front of the cameras.”
Finally, Grisham pointed out that “Pelosi screaming at a young girl was totally unprofessional behavior, and it was exactly what she accused Trump of doing all the time – bullying.” Despite her claims, Grisham admitted that “Trump could bring out the worst in people too.”
At the time of the October 2019 incident, Pelosi said Trump had a “meltdown” during the meeting that followed the passing of a House resolution viewed as a rebuke of the latter’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria.
Trump took to Twitter to post a photo of the meeting wherein Pelosi can be seen standing up and pointing a finger at him. In the photo, Pelosi is surrounded by other male congressional leaders, BBC reported. “Nervous Nancy’s unhinged meltdown,” Trump captioned the photo.
Meanwhile, Pelosi’s spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement to ITK Wednesday that Grisham’s recollection of the events that took place “never happened.” Hammill said they were all “completely made up” and were “desperate trash.”
Grisham’s tell-all book is available on Amazon Kindle for $14.99, while the hardcover version, which was released on Oct. 5, is available at $20.79 on Amazon.
