Pence Tests Negative For COVID-19 On Sunday, VP Debate Still Set To Proceed
Vice President Mike Pence is still testing negative for coronavirus. President Donald Trump’s VP and second lady Karen Pence were tested for the third day in a row on Sunday.
The Vice President and his wife have been tested daily since President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive, a White House official told NBC News. Pence’s negative results mean that, as of right now, Wednesday’s Vice Presidential debate will move forward.
Pence is scheduled to debate Kamala Harris at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Harris is already in Utah, and she’ll stay there until the debate. Pence worked from his official residence on Friday and Saturday, but he is not self-isolating.
Pence will travel to Utah Monday, debate Harris on Wednesday, and then he’ll replace Trump at a Make America Great Again rally in Arizona on Thursday.
Senior Trump campaign advisor Jason Miller told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday that he was happy to have Pence out and campaigning while Trump is receiving treatment for coronavirus.
“I have no concerns at all,” Miller said. “The vice president takes it very serious, all of these measures. Anyone around the vice president are tested. People are kept very safe. And again, we can't hide from this virus forever.”
Meanwhile, Trump is still at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he has been treated with dexamethasone and remdesivir. At 61 years old, Pence is 13 years younger than Trump.
