  • 29-year-old Randy Smithburger was arrested following a call by a concerned citizen
  • The call reported a drunk man pushing a stroller with a child inside
  • He and the child almost tumbled into a creek, prompting police to swoop in and arrest him before he could harm the child

Pennsylvania state police responded to a 911 call in Fayette County about a “very drunk guy” who was walking on the road with a baby in a stroller. The caller added that she was convinced to call the cops because of potential child endangerment.

A year-old child was confirmed to be inside the stroller, Penn Live reported. The woman, identified as Mirhi Nicholson, called state police to help the child. The man was identified as Randy Smithburger, a 29-year-old resident of Uniontown, Pa.

Police respondents said Smithburger was so drunk tumbling right into a creek while pushing the stroller. The problem was that he almost pushed the stroller into the creek along with the child. Nicholson saw the whole the events unfolded from a distance and said Smithburger tried using the stroller to prop himself up. The child also almost tumbled out several times as Smithburger pushed the stroller.

CBSN Pittsburgh also reported that even after allegedly tipping over into the creek, Smithburger did not go home. He didn’t change into a dry set of clothes and kept walking up the street, and met with an African-American police officer.

Nicholson continued that the drunk man wasn’t rude to anyone else on the street. She added that when the cops came into the picture, he started acting differently. He called the police officer names and even used racial slurs initiating a fistfight with the state trooper. The state trooper got Smithburger under control.

Nicholson said that, in most instances, she didn’t like to get involved in things but this time she opted to step up. She said that this was one of the times she was glad that she picked up the phone.

Smithburger reportedly was out on bond and was awaiting trial for another incident related to fighting. He is currently facing multiple felonies, including the incident with the stroller and the child. From the latest reports, he is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $30,000 bail.
