Pennsylvania Mom Shoots Her 2 Sons As She Faced Eviction With $11,000 In Owed Rent
A Pennsylvania mother has been charged with allegedly shooting her two sons while they were in bed as she faced eviction amid more than $11,000 owed in back rent.
Trinh Nguyen, 38, is accused of shooting her 10 and 13-year-old sons as they slept in their beds on Monday morning, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Nguyen allegedly also tried to shoot her 22-year-old neighbor, who is her ex-husband’s nephew, but her gun did not go off, the news outlet said.
She was disarmed by the neighbor with a “bear hug” following the incident but drove away in her minivan, and was apprehended about two hours later by police, according to WPVI, an ABC affiliate out of Philadelphia.
According to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, as reported by WPVI, Nguyen met with her neighbor to give him a box of photos to give to her ex-husband, who he worked with.
“When (he) turned around to face Nguyen, he saw Nguyen pointing a black revolver to his face. Nguyen then pulled the trigger two times, but by the grace of God, the gun did not fire,”
When Nguyen was caught by police, she was taken to a local hospital because she seemed under the influence of drugs, Weintraub said, according to the WPVI.
While it is unclear what the motive of the shootings was, Nguyen was facing eviction from her home because she owed over $11,000 in back rent.
Nguyen is in the midst of a legal battle with her landlord, who has accused her of not paying her rent for several months. She was ordered to leave the home by Tuesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.
The landlord, Corinna Tini-Melchiondo, is the sister of Nguyen’s ex-husband Ed Tini and the mother of the neighbor she tried to shoot.
Nguyen was charged with four counts of felony attempted homicide and one count of possessing an instrument of a crime, according to the Courier Times.
Her two sons are not expected to survive the gunshot injuries and are having their organs donated as a gift of life. Upon their deaths, Nguyen’s charges will be changed to homicide, Weintraub told WPVI.
