Perez Hilton has been infuriating celebrities for years with his social media comments and gossip videos, but his latest comments targeted at TikTok’s Charli D’Amelio have created a wave of backlash from a new generation: Gen Z.

The celebrity gossip blogger addressed that hate in his Wednesday night live stream.

“I have been hashtag canceled,” he said in his rant. “I am banned from commenting on TikTok and there is a petition to get me permanently removed from the app because of what I said that then got everybody upset at me, that then made me a big target and everybody started ganging up on me.”

Those comments he’s referring to started March 3 according to Insider, when Hilton commented on D’Amelio’s TikTok of herself and fellow TikTok star Avani Gregg, dancing in their bikinis to a remix of “Sugar” by Brockhampton. One of the lines in the song, “I can’t take big [expletive] but I suck on it,” didn’t sit well with Hilton who felt it was “inappropriate” for the young teen to dance to the song.

“Anyone else think it's inappropriate for a 15-year-old to dance to this?” he wrote on her post.

D’Amelio replied back to the comment saying, “i’m sorry I’m just trying to have fun,” but the drama didn’t end there.

Hilton then sunk himself into deeper water when he continued to antagonize the situation, posting a video where he claimed his issue was never with D’Amelio but with her parents. He then called out her father for a 2014 drunk driving charge.

However, even with the continued backlash from fans of the teen TikTok star, Hilton did not stop targeting D’Amelio in future videos. Fans eventually began petitioning on April 21 to ban Hilton from the app completely.

Hilton has now spoken out about the situation once again in his latest live stream, calling out another YouTuber Shane Dawson for comments that Hilton believes “echoed” his own.

“Shane echoed what I was saying and he basically called out Charli D’Amelio without naming her,” he said.

Hilton goes on to explain his belief that the situation is hypocritical because most likely Dawson won’t receive the same hate that he personally received.

“So even though he said something identical to what I said, the chances of youngsters getting upset at Shane are slim to none,” Hilton said. “And that’s fine. I’m not advocating for him to be canceled, or banned, or anything like that. I’m just pointing out the double standard.”
