Justin Bieber and wife Hailey Baldwin have revealed how much love they have for each other as they recently celebrated their one-year anniversary of their relationship. However, the couple has one surprising person to thank for getting them together in the first place.

Hailey’s dad Stephen Baldwin first introduced the couple back in 2009, when Bieber was performing on “The Today Show,” the Showbiz CheatSheet reported. During the show, Stephen wanted to introduce the rising star to his daughter, and the entire meeting between the two was caught on camera as can be witnessed here.

Reportedly, Bieber gave Stephen a handshake and then shook Hailey’s hand somewhat uncomfortably too. The moment was awkward for both teenagers at the time as Hailey went back to crossing her arms in front of her almost immediately after the introduction was over, the news outlet reported.

Some speculate that Hailey was embarrassed by her father’s forwardness while others claim that she wasn’t used to being around stars of Bieber’s stature or it could also be blamed on that awkward teen stage as Bieber reacted in a similar manner, the Showbiz CheatSheet said.

In either case, the couple ended up becoming friends and married in 2018 in a secret courthouse wedding ceremony. Bieber did ask Stephen for permission to marry Hailey, which a source told People was important for him to receive before he proposed to his wife.

“Justin asked Stephen for his daughter’s hand in marriage, and Stephen gave his blessing. It was very important to Justin to make sure that her family was on board with the marriage, and they are,” the source said.
