Persona 5 Royal expands the story of the Phantom Thieves in new and meaningful ways ATLUS

KEY POINTS

  • "Persona 5 Royal" reimagines the base game and adds plenty of new content
  • The game is available in the Xbox Game and PC Pass catalogs
  • Fans praised the technical stability and performance of the PC port

One of the best-rated JRPGs of all time has finally reached PC and Xbox users. "Persona 5 Royal," the not-so-a-remake to the massively-successful fifth mainstream game in the franchise, is now available in digital stores and the Xbox Game Pass.

This marks another major win for Game Pass subscribers, including the PC Pass. However, the game may be unavailable for users in certain regions.

"Persona 5 Royal" is both an expansion pack and a reimagining of the original game. It still features the same cast of characters but with a few notable additions like Kasumi, a new Phantom Thief who joins Joker's gang later in the story.

The expansion also features tons of new content for both the social and supernatural aspects of the game. Players can explore more parts of Shibuya, have more interactions with the other Phantom Thieves and experience the rich story and characters throughout the adventure.

Perhaps the biggest draw of "Persona 5 Royal" is the heavily-expanded game levels—otherwise known as Palaces. Every Palace has received major overhauls that bring more life and depth to them. Players who have previously finished "Persona 5" will have no shortage of surprises to encounter when they enter the Cognitive World again.

Additionally, "Persona 5 Royal" expands on the endgame by adding the Third Semester story arc, which can be unlocked by reaching Rank 9 with the new Councillor confidant before Nov. 18 in the game. This arc adds up to 30 hours of gameplay on top of an already massive base game adventure that takes about 80 hours to beat.

The developers also added over a dozen new Personas to the game. Players will need to recruit them as regular Shadows or fuse them from existing Personas within the Velvet Room.

The game has received an Overwhelmingly Positive review score on Steam, with little to no issues in the technical department apart from a wonky control scheme for keyboard users.

"Persona 5 Royal" is one of the biggest titles to ever be added to the Xbox Game Pass, especially considering how the "Persona" series itself has traditionally been exclusive to PlayStation, although there have been PC releases in the past as well.
