Pet Dog Brings Home Human Bone; Incident Leads To Discovery Of Missing Man's Remains
A Georgia family's pet dog brought home a human bone, which eventually led to the discovery of the remains of a man who had been missing for more than a year.
Deputies working with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office received a call last month from the owner of the dog. The man told authorities his pet brought home what appeared to be a human bone, according to Morgan County Citizen.
The caller then revealed he kept the bone in his truck and left for work. Authorities met with the man at his workplace and were able to confirm that the bone actually belonged to a human.
Since the dog owner had no idea where the canine found the bone, deputies fitted the dog with a tracking collar to monitor its movements. This move led deputies to the human remains just 100 yards away from the man's home.
The remains, found on Dec. 16, 2021, as per Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agent Mary Chandler, were identified using dental records as those of Chancellor "CJ" James McCall, a 23-year-old man from Atlanta who went missing on Dec. 28, 2020.
Chandler told the outlet the GBI referenced the National Missing and Unidentified Person System (NamUs) for the name of any missing person in the area. According to the website, McCall was "presumed dead after having been shot in front of a residence on Donnell Way, Decatur, Ga."
"Witnesses described the victim being loaded into the trunk of his own car and driven away. His car was located a few hours later at another location having been burned. Two suspects have been arrested and neither claim to know where his body is," the website said further as per the outlet.
Two men have been arrested in DeKalb County in connection with McCall's disappearance, according to X99 News. DeKalb County Sheriff's Office is still investigating McCall's death.
In September 2021, a stray dog in the Indian city of Madurai was found carrying the severed head of a newborn baby. Authorities were alerted after a boy spotted the animal. The city's sanitation workers then assisted the police in searching for the baby's torso. It was unclear how the infant died, but police believed someone dumped the body into the trash after killing the child.
