A dog owner was heartbroken after his pet was stolen and shot dead during a carjacking in Houston, Texas, on Sunday.

Speaking to ABC owned television station KTRK on Wednesday, Matthew Schultz said he and his fiancé, Blake Kollin, were staying at a hotel as they were planning to move into an apartment the following day. On Sunday morning, a man came from nowhere, punched him before “ripping” him out of his U-Haul truck.

Recalling the incident, Schultz said, “Out of nowhere this guy comes and opens the door and punches me in the face punches me in the ribs rips me out of the U-Haul gets in starts peeling away.”

Schultz was, however, more worried about his pet dog that was inside the vehicle. Pleading the man to return his dog, Schultz said, “Please just give me my baby back. Take everything else - just give me my baby back.” He continued to hold on to the vehicle’s door, but the carjacker managed to drive off.

"I tried everything, yeah. I just couldn't hold on any longer because he kept going faster and faster and faster," Schultz said, adding that was the last time he saw his pet alive.

A day later, he was informed by the police that his pet was found shot dead.

“That’s my baby. That’s my son - being told that your son is gone is the worst feeling in the world,” Schultz said, adding, "The sweetest puppy on the face of the earth. I know how scared he must have been.”

Kollin said, "For somebody to injure, not just injure, but to brutally murder somebody's baby, somebody's dog.”

The couple is now seeking the public's help in finding the carjacker, who they described as a six-feet-tall man with darker skin wearing a red hat.

"If someone can find this savage, this monster, not even a man, that's an evil person," Kollin said.
