Pet Food Recall 2013: Natura Pet Products Recalls List Of Dog And Cat Food Brands For Salmonella Contamination

A pet food recall has been issued by Natura Pet Products after six different brands of the company’s dog and cat food tested positive for Salmonella contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall involves Innova Dry dog and cat food, biscuits, bars, treats. It also includes Evo dry pets foods and treats, California Natural dry pet foods and treats, Healthwise, Karma and Mother Nature brands with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

The FDA has confirmed that the infected Natura products were all packaged in the same production facility.

Salmonella can make pets sick, and there is also a risk to humans if they handle products that are infected. The FDA has advised people to wash their hands thoroughly after contact with any of the pet food products, as well as any surfaces that have been exposed to the products.

Animals that get Salmonella poisoning can show signs of being lethargic, and they may have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea. Other signs can be fever, abdominal pains and vomiting.

There have been no known reports of pet or human illness in relation to the products at this stage of the recall.

The Nebraska-based company released a statement through its website apologizing and stating that additional testing procedures have been implemented for its products.

Natura’s most recent pet food recall comes after the company announced in mid-April that it was expanding an already pending recall, also due to salmonella contamination, to encompass all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates before and including March 24, 2014. The company announced the initial recall on March 29.
