Pets Back In The White House? How Joe Biden's Dogs And Cat Are Making History

When Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden move into the White House following his inauguration on Jan. 20, they will be bringing along their two german shepherds: Major and Champ. However, the couple will also make room for a cat.

The latest furry addition to the Biden family was announced in a tweet on “CBS Sunday Morning.” The post was shared ahead of an episode that featured the Bidens.

“President-elect @JoeBiden and his wife @DrBiden won’t just be bringing their German shepherds, Major and Champ to the White House. The Bidens tell us exclusively that soon they’ll be joined by a cat,” the tweet read.

In September, Jill Biden hinted about the possibility of adding a cat to the family during an interview with told Fox 5 DC reporter Angie Goff. She told the anchor that her husband promised he would get her a cat if he won the election.

Along with bringing the first cat into the White House since the George W. Bush administration, the Bidens will also be bringing the first rescue dog. The Bidens adopted Major in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Society.

Major, Champ and the new cat will bring back a White House tradition. Donald Trump was the first president since James Polk in 1849 to not have a pet while in office.

In February 2019, Trump shed some light on why he never had a pet during his time in office

“I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?” Trump said during a rally in El Paso, Texas.
