KEY POINTS

  • PewDiePie has 10 million subscribers, the most on Youtube
  • His net worth is around $20 million
  • He will take a self-imposed hiatus next year

PewDiePie’s net worth is around $20 million and this coming 2020, the internet star will take a self-imposed hiatus. It is not the first time he has done this, but will it affect his earnings?

PewDiePie, or Felix Kjellberg in real life, shot to stardom in 2010 when he uploaded a video commentary of Minecraft on his channel. The video has over 12 million views and continues to grow until now. He actually started his channel way back when being Youtuber was not a thing. As one of the pioneers of publishing content on the platform, he was able to establish a strong following over the years.

PewDiePie dropped out of college and when his parents would not support him, he supported himself by selling hot dogs.

Forbes ranks him in the seventh place of the Highest Paid Youtubers in 2019 with $13 million in earnings and is tied with Markiplier (Mark Fischbach). The cash king among Youtube content creators is eight years old Ryan Kaji who had a massive $26 million earnings this year.

Many are saying that had PewDiePie not been involved in some controversies, he could have more followers and fans as some of them unfollowed him. Kjellberg’s issues started in 2012 after making jokes about rape and belittling sexual assault. He eventually apologized via Tumblr.

Five years later, he was also involved in a scandal after The Wall Street Journal unearthed his past videos which had "anti-Semitic jokes or Nazi imagery”. Disney and YouTube severed ties with him as a result. His series was also cancelled as well as his videos in their advertising program.

The Swedish-born content creator revealed that he will take some time off next year. This was not the first time that PewDiePie took a hiatus due to alleged burnout. This time, after shutting down his Twitter page, it looks like it will be for much longer.

“I’m tired. I’m feeling very tired. I don’t know if you can tell ... early next year I’ll be away for a little while,” he added in a report from Forbes.

PewDiePie has the most number of subscribers on Youtube with 10 million subscribers. Fans are expecting him to be back soon with better content.
