The PFL women’s lightweight championship will take center stage when 2019 titleholder Kayla Harrison of the United States faces impressive newcomer Taylor Guardado on October 27th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Arguably the most dominant champion in PFL today, Harrison (11-0) has been nothing but untouchable since jumping into the world of mixed martial arts.
The two-time Olympic judo gold medalist has gone undefeated in her 11-fight career so far, which includes a run as PFL women’s lightweight champion in 2019.
Throughout her MMA career, Harrison has dominated the likes of Brittney Elkin, Courtney King, and Larissa Pacheco twice.
With another run at gold in mind at the start of the 2021 season, Harrison made it clear that she is the league’s undisputed "queen."
The American Top Team product backed it all up as she picked up a pair of first-round stoppages against Mariana Morais and Cindy Dandois in the elimination round to earn a return trip to the semifinals.
With a spot in the finale on the line, Harrison dominated Genah Fabian in just one round to move one step closer to a second title run.
With a chance to be the first to defeat Harrison, Guardado (3-1) will try to make history in her first season under the PFL banner.
The Invicta FC veteran’s road to the finals was tough as she needed to grind out a pair of unanimous decision victories against Helena Kolesnyk and Laura Sanchez in the elimination round to earn a spot in the playoffs.
In the semifinals, Guardado earned a split decision win over Mariana Morais to earn a place in the finals.
Harrison and Morais will square off against each other next week with gold and a million-dollar grand prize on the line.
