Singapore Airlines brought an all new meaning to luxury lodging Thursday as they announced that an in-flight suite would be added to its amenities lineup. The suite will be made available on its double-decker Airbus A380 to first-class fliers in December 2017. Singapore Airlines new feature will first be rolled out to a new fleet of five planes, but the amenity won't be added to its pre-existing planes until late 2018.
The overhaul is a part of Singapore Airlines' $850 million investment to maintain its premium customers. The spacious six-suite cabin will include forward-facing luxury bedding, a wardrobe closet, 32-inch flat screen television and private bathrooms, among other amenities. One-way fares for the seats will start at around $6,000.
"Singapore Airlines set new industry benchmarks for premium full-service travel when we introduced our first A380s in October 2007," Marvin Tan, the airline's senior vice president of product and services, said in a Thursday news release. "A decade later we continue to receive highly positive feedback about the travel experience on the aircraft."
Tan added, "The introduction of our all-new cabin products is intended to ensure we retain our product leadership position. The significant investment in the new product and service offerings demonstrates that we are always listening to our customers, and ensuring that we continue to deliver the world’s best travel experience."
Customers seated within the suites will be gifted an amenity kit on select flights. The separate men and women kits are slated to include toiletries and perfumes, but there is also the option to receive a unisex package filled with lifestyle items.
The new features will also be extended to business-class seats. Passengers seated in this section will have a convertible flatbed feature, an 18-inch flat screen television, mood lighting and extra in-seat storage, among other features.
Passengers traveling on the Singapore-Australia flight Dec. 18 will be the first to experience the luxury amenity.
"The new cabin products are the culmination of four years of work, involving extensive customer research and close partnerships with our designers and suppliers," Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said Thursday in a news release. "We are confident that the results will genuinely 'wow' our customers, and ensure that we continue to provide them an unparalleled travel experience."
A representative for Singapore Airlines did not immediately return International Business Times' request for comment.
