The Carolina Panthers had to retrieve the winning ball because it was used to score the 13th touchdown that caused Newton to break Steve Grogan's 35-year-old record. Reuters

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers are set to square off on Thursday night in what will be each team's final NFL preseason game of 2012.

The contest is set to get underway at 7 p.m. ET at Heinz Field. If you don't live in one of the local TV markets or can't get to a TV, you can watch a live stream online by clicking here.

The Steelers look to end the exhibition season with three wins. They beat the Bills 38-7 in their last game.

Pittsburgh is pretty banged up just one week away from the start of meaningful games. Running back Rashard Mendenhall could be out for a few months and guard David DeCastro might be out the whole year. Linebacker James Harrison will miss every exhibition game, though he could be ready for Week 1.

Mike Wallace is finally back with the team after ending his holdout, but he won't play against the Panthers. He'll give Ben Roethlisberger another option once the regular season starts. Roethlisberger went 17-24 for 169 yards with one touchdown against Buffalo.

Carolina is also 2-1. They last beat the Jets 17-12 at MetLife Stadium.

Cam Newton won't have much of a chance to improve on his subpar performance against New York. The second-year quarterback went 6-15 for just 60 yards, and won't play a lot against the Steelers.

Running back Jonathan Stewart will miss the game with a sprained ankle. The Panthers hope to have him back against the Buccaneers next week.

Prediction: The Panthers defense has played surprisingly well this preseason. With a poor offensive line, the Steelers could have some trouble getting into the end zone, especially with the first-string players on the bench.

Predicted Score: Carolina 20, Pittsburgh 13
