Over 156,000 pounds of pepperoni pizza needs to be thrown away or returned to its place of purchase after it did not receive a proper inspection from the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recall was issued by Pizza John's for its frozen pepperoni pizzas produced and distributed from March 2020 to July 28, 2022, to retail locations in Maryland.

Included in the recall is the 12-inch Pizza John's Bake At Home Pepperoni Pizza with a UPC code of 9589334921. The pizza is packaged in clear plastic-wrapped packages and has a weight of 33.25 ounces.

Also recalled was the 16-inch Pizza John's Bake At Home Pepperoni Pizza with a UPC code of 958939019. The pizza is packaged in clear plastic-wrapped packages and has a weight of 57 ounces.

Both pizza products do not have a USDA mark of inspection because they were produced in an establishment that was not inspected by the USDA.

The FSIS is urging consumers to check their freezers for the recalled pizza as the items should not be consumed.

Consumers that have questions about the recall can contact Melissa Steall, Pizza John's office manager, at 410-687-1155.

Pizza John's said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions related to the pizza recall. Anyone that is concerned about a reaction from the products should contact their healthcare provider.
