Controversial author of I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, Tucker Max attempted to give a $500,000 donation to Planned Parenthood--but his money was refused by the organization on principle.

In a blog post on Forbes.com, Max's publicist Ryan Holiday writes that he really tried to get the money in the hands of the family-planning organization, but they simply did not want to be associated with Tucker Max, who has been a lightning rod for his views and statements on women, and specifically Planned Parenthood. Last July, the author and frat-blogger tweeted: Planned Parenthood would be cooler if it was a giant flight of stairs, w/someone pushing girls down, like a water park slide.

Holiday claims Planned Parenthood led Max down the primrose path, first acting very excited about the donation, and then not directly telling him they did not want to be associated with the author. Max was attempting to unload the half-mil as a tax break. Holiday shared this bit of coreespondence with the author: Ryan, I have a huge tax burden this year. I can reduce it with a large donation to charity, but I want to promote my new book at the same time. Can you come up with something cool that does both?

Though he hasn't unloaded the funds, it seems Max has been able to drum up a satisfying amount of publicity for his new book, Hilarity Ensues, here. Though Holiday calls the whole situation one of the stupidest and most depressing things I've ever seen, it appears Planned Parenthood thinks Max is the supid one. The Huffington Post obtained a statement from Planned Parenthood: We appreciate the generosity of our supporters, and take seriously our role as financial stewards of contributions, grants, and government funding. Like many nonprofits, Planned Parenthood reserves the right to decline offers of gifts and grants that may be discriminatory, are for purposes outside of our mission, or are too difficult to administer.
