Here’s everything you need to know about Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, including price, specs and release date.
Sony's PlayStation VR headset will cost $399
When it comes to pricing, Sony’s Playstation VR headset costs $399 compared to the Oculus Rift's $600 price tag and the HTC Vive’s $800 price. While Sony’s VR headset may be late to the party, it’s significantly cheaper. Please keep in mind that the PlayStation Move camera and controllers required for tracking will cost additional, making the $399 price go up a little bit more.
Sony detailed the final hardware specs of the headset
When it comes to final hardware specs of Sony’s headset, it sports a 5.7-inch OLED display running at a 120 Hz rate and has a total resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 960 x 1080 per eye. Sony says the field of view comes in at 100 degrees with latency at 18ms.
The PlayStation VR requires the PlayStation 4 to get started
One of the best things about Sony’s PlayStation VR is that it only requires a PlayStation 4 to get started. Compared to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, where you need to buy rather expensive gaming PCs, to get started, that's something of a bargain. It will be interesting to see if this helps the company get a leg up in sales.
