Even though Fernandes’ current deal is until 2025, Manchester United are keen to reward him with a new contract for the amazing work he has done for the Red Devils since his arrival from Sporting during the January window in 2020.

With Paul Pogba certainly set to leave Manchester United in the 2022 summer, the club’s priority is to find an ideal replacement along with offering Fernandes a fine deal, something they had hoped for the French midfielder, according to Spanish publication Diario AS.

Pogba, who returned to Old Trafford in 2016, recently admitted that the last five years with the Red Devils have not been satisfying. He will leave the Manchester club as a free agent at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

“We have to be honest, I am not satisfied over the last 5 years, but not at all. This year, it’s dead, we will win nothing again. Whether it is with Manchester or in another club, I want to win trophies,” Pogba said in a recent interview.

The 27-year-old Fernandes has netted 49 goals and provided 39 assists in as many as 117 appearances for Manchester United across competitions. He seems like a born leader as he showed at all of his previous clubs -- Udinese, Sampdoria and Sporting and has already captained the Red Devils on various occasions.
