‘Pokémon Go’ Gen 2 Live: What Pokémon Are Available In The Gen 2 Pokédex?

The Gen 2 Pokémon Update is already live on “Pokémon GO,” and longtime fans of the Pokémon franchise are elated to hear the news. For neophytes and first-time players of “Pokémon GO” however, this means they have to memorize another long list of pocket monster names. Niantic Labs launched its now very successful mobile game with 146 Gen 1 Pokémon out of the 151 Kanto Region Pokémon. This week, fans will get to see more creatures as the Johto Region Pokémon arrive in the game.

In the Pokémon franchise, there are 100 Gen 2 Pokémon registered in the Pokédex. Prior the launch of the new major update for “Pokémon GO,” many were hoping and patiently waiting for these Pokémon to be part of the game. Unfortunately, not all pocket monsters from he Johto Region will land on “Pokémon GO’s” virtual world this week. On Wednesday, Niantic and The Pokémon Company announced that more than 80 Gen 2 Pokémon that debuted in “Pokémon Gold” and “Pokémon Silver” are coming to “Pokémon GO.”

On Thursday, Niantic kept its word by rolling out version 0.57.2 for Android and version 1.27.2 for iOS of its famous AR game. The update does not only bring Gen 2 Pokémon with it, but also a couple of new features that are expected to enhance the overall gaming experience. Fixes for bugs and minor text errors have also been seeded as part of the update.

For Trainers who will be spending the weekend catching as many Pokémon as possible, they should know that they now have the goal of catching more than 80 new Pokémon. Gen 2 Baby Pokémon and the Legendary Pokémon are not counted. The former already debuted in the game via an earlier update. As for the latter, IGN has learned that Niantic is reserving the Gen 2 Legendaries for upcoming Events and Updates.
