‘Pokémon Go’ Update: Meet Steel-Type Mythical Pokémon Meltan
There’s a new creature in the Pokémon universe and The Pokémon Company choose to introduce it to fans via Niantic’s famous augmented reality mobile game, “Pokémon Go.”
The new species of pocket monster is called Meltan and it was identified shortly after Niantic revealed via the Pokémon Go blog that there have been sightings of a mysterious creature in the game. Some players apparently noticed that some Ditto have transformed into a different Pokémon in the recent days.
On Tuesday, The Pokémon Company addressed the mysterious sightings by uploading a video, entitled “New Pokémon Discovered: Introducing Meltan,” on The Official Pokémon YouTube channel. In the video, Professor Oak tells Professor Willow that the peculiar Pokémon is a mythical creature that’s been described in old text. So technically, it’s not really a new Pokémon.
The official description for Meltan is already up on the Pokémon website, and it is stated there that the newly discovered Pokémon belongs to the Hex Nut category and it is a Steel-type creature. Meltan is said to be very expressive and displays huge interest in all kinds of things.
“Most of Meltan’s body is made from liquid metal, and its shape is very fluid. It can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body,” a part of the description reads. “Meltan generates electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and also as an attack that can be fired from its eye.”
The press release issued by The Pokémon Company states that “Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!” and “Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!” players will also meet Meltan in the future. However, it appears only those who caught the creature in “Pokémon Go” will be able to port it to the Nintendo Switch games.
