‘Pokémon Sun And Moon’: 5 Best New Pokémon In Alola
Pokémon Sun and Moon is here and with the new games come a lot of new Pokémon for players to catch and train.
With so many new Pokémon and Alola Forms, trainers will have some hard choices to make when filling up their teams while adventuring through the Alola Region. However, there are a certain few that will definitely help trainers get through their Island Challenges and are just plain cool.
We’ve put together a list of the five best new Pokémon from Sun and Moon , based on battle prowess and how well they will help you on your journey. (This list does not include Legendary Pokémon or Alola Form Pokémon.)
5. Alola Starters
You may think this is cheating, but how can you not lump the Alola starter Pokémon together?
You’ll choose from Rowlet, Litten and Popplio (who will evolve into Decidueye, Incineroar and Primarina, respectively) to be your first partner in Sun and Moon , and whoever you choose will help you overcome the tough trainers in Alola. Each Pokémon has unique typings for starters, and the inclusion of their own special Z-Moves just makes them extra powerful.
4. Mudsdale
This may come as a surprise: a pure Ground-type Pokémon based on a donkey/horse makes one of the best Pokémon in Sun and Moon ? It seems a bit farfetched, but hear us out.
Mudsdale’s typing helps it against plenty of Poison, Fire and Electric types in Alola and its overall bulk will help beginner trainers take hits. Its Stamina ability increases its Defense when hit so that gives it even more bulk.
With access to plenty of powerful attacks and TMs, Mudsdale is one of the best Pokémon in Sun and Moon .
3. Salazzle
Trainers will notice many of the new Pokémon in Sun and Moon are… a tad slow. A lot of the Pokémon’s base speed stats don’t hit 80 with only a couple going over 100, that includes the starters.
But Salazzle, the first Fire and Poison-type, is the fastest of the new Pokémon with a staggering 115 base speed stat.
Salazzle may have some weak defenses but the massive speed and special attack stat make this Pokémon a glass cannon with an awesome move pool and ability set.
Just be sure to catch a female Salandit, or you won’t get Salazzle.
2. Araquanid
The biggest surprise on our journey through the Alola Region, Araquanid is more than just a huge water spider, it’s actually a complete tank.
Bolstering an impressive special defense stat and access to some powerful attacks, Araquanid’s really shines when it has the new ability, Water Bubble.
This ability reduces damage from Fire-type attacks, prevents burn and powers up Water-type attacks. Water Bubble plus Araquanid receiving STAB from its Water-type attacks make this bug a powerful new Pokémon in Sun and Moon.
1. Kommo-o
The pseudo-legendary Pokémon of Sun and Moon , Kommo-o is the first Dragon and Fighting-type Pokémon and comes with some of the best stats in the game (outside of Legendary Pokémon).
A varied set of moves and the ability to be either a physical, special attacker or both makes Kommo-o highly desirable in Sun and Moon .
Forget its four times weakness to Fairy-type attacks; Kommo-o can take on plenty of Pokémon and will lead you to victory.
