‘Pokémon Sun And Moon’ Nintendo Update: Demon Of The Sea Pokémon, New Alola Forms Explained
Nintendo appears to be unfazed by the fact that its new “Pokémon Sun and Moon” trailer was leaked hours before it could officially release it online. And this is because the leaked Japanese trailer did not reveal all the important details about the new additions to the upcoming RPGs for the 3DS.
To discredit the leaked Japanese trailer, Nintendo has now updated its official U.S. site with descriptions and explanations about the newly revealed Pokémon, the three new Alola forms and the newest villain organization that will appear in both “Pokémon Sun” and “Pokémon Moon.”
Talking about the new Alola forms for Meowth, Marowak and Raichu, Nintendo revealed the reasons behind the alternate appearances of the three pocket monsters. For Meowth, the reason behind why its Alolan form is a Dark type is because the character has become selfish and prideful after living abundantly as a companion of the Alola region’s royal family.
On the other hand, the Alolan Marowak, which has a Fire type and a Ghost type, is described as having the ability to light bones by just rubbing them against its forehead. Furthermore, because of its menacing appearance, the Alola people fear the Alolan Marowak and try to stay away from it as much as possible.
As for the Alolan Raichu, Nintendo explained that this creature has two types, Electric and Psychic. The Electric type is already obvious, since from the get-go Raichu, just like Pikachu, has electricity as its power. For the Psychic type however, the video game company said that this Alola form has the ability to gather its psychic power in its tail to be used in attacks, and it can also ride on it when needed.
Meanwhile, Nintendo also described the two new Pokémon that were featured in the trailer it officially released on YouTube several hours earlier. Basically, new Pokémon Wishiwashi is a Water type Pokémon that comes in both solo and school form. Wishiwashi is considered the demon of the sea because its solo form may appear very weak, but when it transforms to its school form, it becomes a ferocious giant — measuring 26 feet in length and 173 pounds in weight — that is always ready to battle whenever there is a distress signal.
The other Pokémon that was featured in the “Pokémon Sun and Moon” trailer is Pyukumuku, which is also a Water type Pokémon. Though it does not look appealing and strong on the outside, it has a special Ability that no other Pokémon has, Innards Out. This Ability enables Pyukumuku to release a powerful blow to its opponent before it dies that is equal to the HP available to it before the latter’s fatal attack.
Other details announced by Nintendo pertain to the new villains group in the two games. According to the description of the “Pokémon Sun and Moon” trailer uploaded on YouTube, the new villains comprise Team Skull, the organization that is causing trouble in the Alola region. The members of the organization are called Team Skull Grunts. The team’s admin is Plumeria, who is described as a tough lady who only shows care to the Grunts.
As for the team’s boss, Game Freak named him Guzma, and he is described as someone who battles opponents without mercy. Polygon reports that Guzma could be seeking revenge against other Alola region captains after failing to become one himself. Thus, it is not surprising that Guzma is leading Team Skull in stealing Pokémon from other people in the Alola region and disturbing the trial sites in the area.
“Pokémon Sun” and “Pokémon Moon” are slated to be released in North America on Nov. 18. Both titles will be exclusively available on the Nintendo 3DS systems.
