Police Shoot And Kill Child Rape Suspect After He Stabs Officer: Investigators

A 32-year-old man wanted for child rape was fatally shot by police officers in Lewis County, Washington, after the man stabbed a police officer in the head and back.
Officers with the Pierce County Sheriff's Office were attempting to arrest the suspect at a residence in Chehalis, Washington, Friday morning for investigation of second-degree child rape when the incident occurred, KOMO reported, citing a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect, whose name was not disclosed, appeared to reach for a weapon as deputies were approaching the residence, the sheriff's office said. A Pierce County deputy then fired their gun, according to the press release.
The man fled the scene, resulting in law enforcement hunting him down. A K9 was able to locate the suspect in less than two hours.
While making contact with the man, a Centralia police officer was stabbed in the head and back area, according to the sheriff's office.
Officers with the Centralia Police Department then shot the man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
The officer who was stabbed was taken to an area hospital for surgery and is in stable condition, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. No other information has been released thus far.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation in the case with the assistance of the Chehalis Police Department, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol, the Associated Press reported.
In related news, a suspected gunman in Colorado's Lakewood city was fatally shot by cops in December 2021 after he carried out a string of shootings that killed at least four people and injured three.
The shootings began on the afternoon of Dec. 27, 2021, and the same gunman was involved in all four attacks that were conducted in rapid succession, The Denver Channel reported, citing Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen.
"This one individual was responsible for this very violent crime spree that took place this evening," Pazen told reporters.
A police officer was also injured in the shootings, authorities said.
