Pop Culture And GIFs: Stories Told In Bitmaps By Google
KEY POINTS
- Search Engine giant Google has launched a number of tools to help users search for the best GIFs
- One tool can give the most popular celebrity or fictional character for a certain emotion
- Another tool is a "fingerprint" map that portrays celebrities in different emotions
A single GIF, or those moving images we often found in social media stories, can almost tell an entire story. Post something that's sad and it let the world knows that you're under the weather. Pasting Elmo laughing on the other hand, will tell your friends that you're happy.
And yes, instant likes and more followers.
For those who want to step up their GIF game, new search tools from Mountain View kings Google will definitely help you. It's as simple as clicking down the drop down arrow, search for your emotion of the day, find a suitable pop (or cult) icon and watch the magic unfold in bitmap.
Another tool, as The Verge reported, will let users sift through a bevy of emotions and the engine will, in turn, find and give the “most popular celebrity or fictional character.” It can be anyone from Oprah to Kanye West to Michael Jordan. The list goes on, and it's just for one emotion.
In Medium's “Emoting with Pop Culture” article, Tenor is the name behind all of these GIFs falling in all the right places. From Drake's wide array of antics to Korean idols BTS making their fans woo over with different emotions, everything is in there, and it's just a matter of choosing the best over the rest.
But it doesn't stop here. Google also introduced a “fingerprint” map of celebrities portraying different emotions. The pane is divided into two like “happy” or “sad,” and each dot represents a certain celebrity showing the emotion that you want.
So the next time you're running out of words, try looking for Judge Judy or Eric Cartman.
