Popeye's Chicken Sandwich Sold Out! Two-Month Inventory Sells Out In Two Weeks
Popeyes' newly launched deep-fried chicken sandwich has been sold out within two weeks of its national launch because of high demand.
According to reports, the Popeyes' new chicken sandwich inventory was expected to last until late September but was exhausted by the huge demand in just two weeks.
The craze for the new sandwich was evident in the social media buzz that translated into humungous demand and swallowed up the two months’ inventory within weeks.
The social media was brimming with memes and thumbs-ups comparing the new sandwich to that of its principal competitor, Chick-fil-A.
As the replenishment of stock is in progress, customers can get alerts on the sandwich’s availability or its supply status by downloading the Popeyes app and can sign up for push notifications.
People queued up for hours to buy Popeyes’ sandwich
According to TV reports, Popeye’s sandwich had such a huge demand that people stood long hours to get the stuff at many locations. One report also said someone tried to sell the sandwich on eBay for $7,000.
In a statement, Popeyes said the demand for their new product surpassed all expectations.
The sandwich news said Popeyes was expecting that the inventory would stay sufficient till the end of September.
“As a result, Popeyes restaurants across the country are expected to sell out of the Chicken Sandwich by the end of this week. We, along with our suppliers, are working tirelessly to bring the new sandwich back to guests as soon as possible,” the statement by Popeyes added.
Social media users responded to sold-out news with GIFs of crying faces and dismay.
Popeyes’ officially launch of chicken sandwich on Aug. 12 was a big bang event and touted as the first nationwide chicken sandwich launch in nearly 30 years.
A sandwich war was also witnessed on Twitter seeking the tag of the best chicken sandwich.
Popeyes, Chick-fil-A and Wendy's were competing for the top slot.
KFC’s plant-based chicken gets a huge response
Meanwhile, rival KFC also reported an abrupt sell out of the newly launched plant-based fried chicken Tuesday.
According to restaurant news, Beyond fried chicken was sold off in less than five hours on the very first day of its test launch at a single Atlanta location.
Customers reportedly made a beeline before the restaurant from 8 a.m.
According to KFC news, the volumes of Beyond fried chicken sold in a single day equaled the week-long sale volumes of its popcorn chicken.
The KFC chain is now tapping customer feedback to decide for a national roll-out.
Beyond Meat has made the plant-based fried chicken. The test at KFC is the first of its kind before it could be introduced nationwide.
