Throughout the current season, the Portland Trail Blazers have shown their tough competitive nature with how they’ve defeated the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers in their last matchup. With the end of the regular season approaching, Portland is in a position to face against the Lakers in the upcoming playoffs.
The Lakers have clinched the first seed in the Western Conference in their win against the Utah Jazz. This puts the team in a strong position to chase their 17th banner for the Purple and Gold. But this will not be done without any challenges as a potential hurdle lies in the form of Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers.
The competitive nature of Portland is one of the best in the league with the manner of how they play every night. This is something the Lakers are aware of based on their previous encounter with the Trail Blazers. In one of the more memorable performances this season, Lillard erupted for 48 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists to lead Portland to a 127-119 win at Staples Center.
While the Lakers are already assured their top rank in the conference, Portland is fighting for an eight seed as they currently have a 32-38 record. The Memphis Grizzlies are ahead of them by a small margin with 32-37 standing.
The momentum is on Portland’s side as they are coming off an impressive victory against the Denver Nuggets. It was a stellar performance once again for Lillard as he erupted for 45 points to go along with 11 makes from beyond the arc.
"Y'all know that I'm always optimistic and always see the best in situations like this, and it's why I said what I said a few months ago when I said, 'If we don't have a chance to compete for a playoff spot, I don't want to play,'" Lillard said by way of ESPN.
The Blazers are now at 3-1 in the NBA bubble and are not looking to stop anytime soon.
"Because I knew if we did have a chance to play for a playoff spot, it would look something like it looks right now," Lillard added.
It will be interesting to see how a possible Lakers-Blazers matchup will look like as Portland continues to peak at the right time.
