Pot Pizza Is The Latest Sensation At Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Pot pizza or medical marijuana-infused pizza is cooking up a storm at Ermont Inc., a Massachusetts medical marijuana dispensary, as patients looking to deal with pain the natural way are lining up to get a taste of the delicacy that satisfies both the taste buds as well as their special needs.

The six-inch cheese pizzas containing 125 milligram dose of the dispensary's "high-strength THC distillate," is priced at $38 apiece, according to WBUR News.

The “South Shore bar style” pizzas are sold frozen, which only require a few minutes in the oven to transform into the doughy, cheesy goodness that is loved by all Americans alike.

Reflecting on the style and method of preparing the pot pizza, that is quickly climbing up the popularity ladder, Ermont Inc. chef Keith Brooks said in the statement: “The style of our infused pizza was inspired by what’s commonly known throughout the South Shore as ‘bar pizza’ – thin, crispy crust, well-done cheese and tomato sauce spread to the edge of a metal pan. It was a delight to make, and it’s delicious.”

While it might look like a regular cheese pizza at first glance, biting into it makes one realize the difference. Since one can very easily overindulge on these pizzas, the dispensary has taken the care to clearly label each packaged item with the dosages infused in them. In addition, the pizzas are also packed in a way that prevents child tampering since these are not meant for kids to consume, Fox 6 Now reported.

Kids are not the only ones who will be deprived of the pot pizza. Not everyone who is looking to get high on cannabis-infused food products can get their hand on one of these pizzas. These treats are exclusively reserved for people with state-issued medical marijuana ID cards. However, as far as the patients are concerned, they seem to love the delicacy that has been hand-crafted for them.

"I've found that's the only thing that helps," patient Wes Francois told CBS News. "I want to stay away from painkillers. This is a great substitute for it. It's amazing how creative they get.”

The marijuana used in making the pot pizza is grown by Ermont Inc. themselves.

Ermont's Director of Operations Seth Yaffe stated that the notion behind concocting a recipe such as this was to find a more delicious alternative for the patients to consume medical marijuana without being subjected to criticizing eyes or making them feel less-than-normal.

"A lot of our patients really wanted to basically figure out a different way to medicate that didn't always remind them that they were trying to do something to take care of themselves," Yaffe said, according to the CBS News report. "It really makes medicating seem like something that isn't as scary."

Apart from the pot pizza, which is its latest addition, the company has been making all sorts of marijuana-infused food products for quite a while. They include macaroni and cheese, cupcakes, chocolate, pies, coffee, lemonade, honey and many others. According to Yaffe, some of their top sellers are peanut butter, honey and olive oil.

It’s been three weeks since Ermont Inc. began selling pot pizzas and they have already received some rave reviews regarding them, according to the WBUR report.
