Before ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Premieres, Remember What Happened To Tariq
When “Power Book II: Ghost” premieres, fans will see Tariq navigate through life for the first time on his own. In the past, he was able to depend on his parents to protect him, but the events of the “Power” Season 6 finale took everything he has ever known away.
In the “Power” Season 6 finale, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) ultimately decided to kill Ghost (Omari Hardwick) after learning he wanted Tariq to turn himself in for killing Ray Ray (Marcus Callender).
Ghost was eager for a clean political career and threatened to tell the police that Tasha killed Keisha (La La Anthony) if they did anything to ruin his future.
Although the mother and son initially planned on Tasha killing Ghost, Tariq made the last-minute decision to take his father’s life. Tariq had a vision of Kanan (50 Cent) claiming that Ghost and Tasha would end up killing each other, but if Tariq killed his father, Ghost would never expect it.
After the two argued about Ghost’s mistakes, the aspiring politician told his son that he loves him before being shot and falling over the balcony at his night club, Truth.
Following Ghost’s death, Tasha and Tariq learned that Ghost cut Tasha out of his will, and Tariq will only gain access to his trust fund if he graduates from college.
Although Tariq and Tasha initially tried to frame other people for Ghost’s murder, the cops suspect her as the culprit, and she takes the fall so her son can go to college and get his trust fund.
“Power Book II: Ghost” will follow Tariq’s new normal in which he is tasked with being a college student and taking care of his little sister, grandmother, and mother.
“There’s so much to tell about legacy and how you can’t outrun who you are,” creator Courtney Kemp told Entertainment Weekly.
“I do think that if people get to know this version of Tariq, who is confused and alone and has so much pressure on his shoulders, they will see that all he’s trying to do is survive, which couldn’t be more relatable.”
“Power Book II: Ghost” premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on Starz.
