Pregnant ‘Rome In Love’ Star Italia Ricci Reveals How She Hid Baby Bump
“Designated Survivor” alum Italia Ricci makes her Hallmark Channel debut tonight with the Summer Nights 2019 movie premiere of “Rome in Love,” opposite Peter Porte (“Love at the Shore”).
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Anita Hughes and follows American actress Amelia (Ricci) as she heads to Rome to star in a remake of “Roman Holiday.” While there, she spends time with American reporter Philip (Porte), and there might just be more blooming between them than just a professional relationship.
The cast shot the Summer Nights movie earlier this year on location in Rome, Italy, with Ricci sharing photos on social media along the way, as well as some happy news shortly after finishing up her time there.
On April 13, Ricci posted on Instagram to share that filming on “Rome in Love” had wrapped, and then just six days later she revealed the exciting news that she’s pregnant with her and her husband’s — actor Robbie Amell (“The DUFF”) — first child.
So, how did the pregnant actress hide her growing baby bump while shooting scenes for the Hallmark Channel movie? With the right wardrobe and the right angles, of course.
On Thursday, Ricci put up a throwback video of herself in one of her “Rome in Love” dresses, which she can actually be seen wearing on the poster for the film, and it starts off with her bump concealed by the dress and how she’s standing.
As the video progresses, she shows how the loose fabric and extra flaps on the front and side of the dress work to hide the baby bump.
“#TBT to hiding the bump during #RomeInLove,” she wrote alongside the short clip. “Airing this Saturday on @HallmarkChannel. Enjoy with an extra glass of wine for me.”
In other “Rome in Love” photos released by Hallmark, Ricci’s character is also seen wearing flowy shirts and cardigans to help, as well.
Plus, she’s sometimes seen sitting behind Porte’s character or behind a table, or even walking with her arm in front of her stomach, to hide her pregnancy from the camera, too.
See the other ways in which Ricci, the director Eric Bross and the wardrobe department were able to work together to hide the baby bump when “Rome in Love” airs on Hallmark Channel on Saturday at 9 p.m. EDT.
