Pregnant Woman, 6-Month-Old Infant Injured In Ohio Road Rage Shooting, Suspect Arrested
A man was arrested Monday (June 15), two days after he shot and injured an infant and a pregnant woman in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to local reports, the accused, identified as 54-year-old Nathaniel Jolly, pulled up alongside a white Chevrolet TrailBlazer near Chillie’s Beverage and Deli restaurant on the city’s east side late Saturday. Jolly then accused the driver of the vehicle of hitting his black Cadillac SUV.
According to the court documents, Jolly pulled out a gun and opened fire during which a 6-month-old boy and his 25-year-old aunt were injured. While the woman, who is seven months pregnant, suffered a gunshot wound to her thigh, the infant was shot in the back. Both their injuries were non-life-threatening. The infant’s father, who was driving the car, was not injured in the incident.
On Monday, police released CCTV images from a nearby gas station which showed the suspect. The video, which was recorded shortly before the road rage incident, showed the TrailBlazer pull into the gas station. The black Cadillac was then caught on camera following the TrailBlazer out of the parking lot. The shooting then took place near the nearby Chillie’s Beverage and Deli where the infant's father had stopped to buy a wrap.
Following a search, Jolly was taken into custody Monday and charged with two counts of felonious assault. He was booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail and was awaiting his first court appearance.
The incident comes months after two brothers from Missouri shot a man during a road rage incident. Joseph Marino and Nicholas Marino were driving a Mitsubishi GTS when they pulled over to confront a driver, later identified as 46-year-old Scott Thomas, who was with his four children. While confronting, the two brothers pointed their guns at Thomas before Nicholas shot him three times in the chest in front of the victim’s four children. The brothers then drove off.
They were pulled over by the police shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Nicholas, who confessed to shooting the victim, was charged with aggravated assault and armed criminal activity while his brother was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated.
