With the Hardy Boyz in bad shape and eventually relinquishing their tag team titles, most had expected some kind of mini tournament to determine the new WWE SmackDown tag team champions. Unfortunately, that was not in the script and Shane McMahon somehow shortened the process when he named Daniel Bryan and Rowan as the new champs.

The surprise decision, of course, did not sit well and SmackDown fans were eventually in for a treat. With the Wild Card Rule in place, The Usos returned to the blue brand and made a case to at least have Bryan and Rowan earn the titles in an official match.

McMahon was ultimately convinced to have that match happen. However, Bryan and Rowan still came out on top in the ferocious battle. In the end, it was Rowan picking up the victory after pinning Jey Uso for the three-count and officially becoming tag team champions with Bryan, WWE.com reported.

Seeing as how Bryan is dealing with an injury, the sudden move to team up with Rowan hardly comes as a surprise. After losing the heavyweight title to Kofi Kingston at Wrestlemania 35, Bryan has been rarely seen in action. Although he did re-emerge to get a rematch with Kingston on RAW, the outcome was pretty much the same. His actual injury remains undisclosed as of this writing, Cage Side Seats reported.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting who would be up next for Bryan and Rowan. The Usos could stick around or perhaps some of the other tag teams such as the team of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura, The B-Team, Heavy Machinery or the Colons. But with the Wild Card Rule in play, there is also a chance that some tag teams from Raw may emerge. Like most matches, the tag team division is likely to be in a state of uncertainty since it is technically open season on both WWE brands.

Equally interesting is how long Bryan will stay in tag team action. With someone like Rowan around, he can see less action in the ring and avoid the physicality that could aggravate his injury.

There is no telling if he will return to singles competition and make another run at the heavyweight title. Regardless, he does have gold on his waist and this could eventually help him heal up and wrestle at 100 percent.
