Premier League Final Day Relegation Battle - Wigan, Wolves, Blackburn Survive, Birmingham and Blackpool Out
In a dramatic final day of the English Premier League, there were many twists and turns but in the end, Wigan, Wolves and Blackburn survived the drop at the expense of Birmingham and Blackpool.
Many watchful eyes were at Old Trafford, where newly-crowned Champions faced a battling Blackpool. And it was fitting finale to the season. Park-Ji-Sung's 21st minute goal was cancelled out 20 minutes later by a Charlie Adam stunner to send the teams into half time on even footing. However, Blackpool needed a win, and they went for it in the second half. Taylor-Fletcher scored to make it 2-1 for the visitors and boost survival hopes. But it wasn't to be. United stepped on the pressure, and goals from Anderson and Michael Owen sandwiched an Evatt own goal to deem Blackpool into the Championship.
Elsewhere, Wolves staged an incredible comeback from 3-0 down at half time to crawl back to 2-3 at the end of the game. However, considering the late loss for both Blackpool and Birmingham, both Wolves and Blackburn survived.
Tottenham were 1-0 up until the 80th minute through Pavlyuchenko's early second half goal. Birmingham's hopes were raised when Gardner equalized with ten minutes left. However, Pavlyuchenko scored a second in injury time to send Birmingham into the Championship.
At the end of the 2010-11 English Premier League season, West Ham (33 points), Blackpool (39) and Birmingham (39) were relegated.
