Mohamed Salah emulated legendary Ian Rush in a special Liverpool feat with the brace he struck in his side’s 3-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.

With the two goals against West Ham at the London Stadium, Salah became the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals or more across competitions in four straight seasons since Ian Rush’s feat between 1981 and 1987, according to OptaJoe.

Liverpool and West Ham went into the half-time break at a 0-0 draw before Salah, who had been on a six-game goal drought in the Premier League, opened the scoring in the second half of the game. As soon as Jurgen Klopp substituted James Milner with young Curtis Jones, the latter created Liverpool’s first goal. He provided the assist as Salah produced a fine finish to put Liverpool 1-0 in 57 minutes. The Egyptian playmaker doubled the Reds' lead with an incredibly composed finish after a magnificent counterattack in the 68th minute.

Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s strike sealed the win for Liverpool that ended West Ham’s eight-match streak in all competitions, although Craig Dawson netted a consolation late goal for the home side. It was the London-based club’s first defeat since Dec. 21.

The two goals took Salah’s aggregate against West Ham to nine goals in the English top-flight league, making the London Stadium club the team Salah has scored the most number of Premier League goals against.

In the 2020-21 season, Salah is leading the goals chart with 15 strikes, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur duo of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, who has netted 12 goals each so far in the league.

Overall, in the current campaign, Salah has struck 21 goals across all competitions for Liverpool, 11 more than Sadio Mane, who sits second in the club’s goals chart this season with 10 goals. Next on the list are Diogo Jota with nine goals and Roberto Firmino with six goals.
