Premier League Rumors: Arsenal Leading Race For Services Of Willian
KEY POINTS
- Arsenal is now leading race for Willian
- Willian wants to remain in London
- Race for Willian's services is still wide open
It appears that it is Arsenal, not Liverpool, who is winning in the race for the services of Brazilian footballer Willian Borges da Silva. The latest reports claim that the Gunners now loom as the logical destination for the 31-year-old midfielder although the race for his services is still wide open.
This was the revelation of his representatives in an interview with Jorge Nicola of ESPN. One factor linked to this possibility is that the Brazilian loves London, a place he now calls his home. Aside from that, there is his relationship with David Luiz that critics are singling out. But perhaps the most important one of all is that Arsenal may be willing to grant Willian's demand -- a three-year deal.
"If you ask my wife if she wants to leave London, she’ll say no. My daughters feel the same way. Of course, Brazil is Brazil, right? It’s our home, our culture. We always feel good when we go there on holiday and see family and friends, but London is my second home," Willian said in an article over at the Players' Tribune.
Other teams interested in the services of the Brazilian winger include Liverpool, Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain. And while he does have options, getting a three-year deal is the most relevant of all. And if one looks deeply into the reason why it is not just about the security of tenure. Willian wants to stay in London, his second home.
In a previous report, it appeared Liverpool was ahead of the pack. But the reason being there was the Reds would be willing to hand him a three-year deal. But with Willian wanting to stay in London, the scenario may have changed. But as mentioned earlier, the race for the Brazilian footballer remains open.
All teams in pursuit of top players like Willian have time to spare. Some leagues are planning to restart by next month but even that is uncertain. The number of people infected and dying from COVID-19 continue to swell by the day. No cure has come out and curving numbers are no assurance that the coronavirus will not be reactivated moving forward.
