KEY POINTS

  • Blues are not buying back Boga
  • Boga is likely headed to Napoli
  • Chelsea is working on deal with Sassuolo

Chelsea FC has been frequenting transfer rumors, with several players reportedly on Frank Lampard's radar. However, the Blues do have several players out on loan such as Jeremie Boga. Based on the latest reports it appears the French midfielder will not be recalled to west London, with Chelsea working on a new sell-on clause that would keep the 23-year-old booter.

Boga was sold to the Serie A ballclub in 2018 for $4.3 million. However, the deal included a buy-back clause for the Blues worth roughly $16 million. Considering Bog had been playing well in Italy, most felt that a return to Stamford Bridge was happening this summer. Unfortunately, that is not the case, with the Blues working on something for Sassuolo for a percentage of his future transfer fee, The Guardian reported.

This season, Boga has scored eight goals and issued two assists in 24 league appearances. But the word going around is that he may be leaving Italy in the summer, with Napoli expressing interest in his services. Though the 23-year-old Ivory Coast international has shown promise, he is still far behind compared to Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro. For now, the main agenda for Boga is to finish the season and deal with his future once his contract is done.

Serie A action may resume by June 13 or 20, dates revealed by Italy's minister of sport Vincenzo Spadafora. If this holds true, they become another league resuming play. Germany’s Bundesliga was the first major European league to return to action on May 16.

On their end, Chelsea is dealing with manpower concerns. So far, only Olivier Giroud has agreed to a one-year deal with the Blues. Willian has yet to figure out his future. He did mention he was open to agreeing to a temporary deal, aware that it may not be a good time to seek a long-term deal. The Brazilian wanted a three-year deal but Chelsea was only willing to give him two. But all that has changed since the COVID-19 outbreak. Much of this was covered in a previous report.

The only other player who was secured by the Blues so far is Willy Caballero. Like Giroud, he too agreed to a one-year pact. If Chelsea rescinds its previous two-year offer, Willian may end up settling for a one-year deal himself.
