Premier League Rumors: Chelsea Coach Warns About Complacency; Top Scorer Groping For Form
KEY POINTS
- Thomas Tuchel reminds fans that Chelsea is not yet done following their win over Leicester City
- Their fate depends on the next match against Tottenham
- Tuchel is optimistic that Mason Mount may recall old form soon
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel may have to dig deeper as they enter the final stretch of the seaosn.
The German mentor admitted that Mason Mount has been struggling as of late and cautioned most to lower their expectation as the English striker tries to recall his old form.
It has been a big turnaround for the player who seemed to have fit in perfectly to Tuchel’s system.
Before the dry spell, the 22-year-old was the Blues' top scorer on six occasions. Mount had the chance to get back in his groove against Leicester City on Saturday but failed.
The Foxes ended up hoisting the FA Cup for the first time, winning the fixture with a 1-0 joist.
In the aftermath of that debacle, Tuchel called on everyone not to expect too much but maintained it would be foolish to overlook Mason's talent.
“In the cup final, perhaps he could have played with a little more composure but don’t forget, if it wasn’t for an incredible save from [Kasper] Schmeichel, then he would have scored an equalizer. It wasn’t to be but Mason is always a dangerous player for us and we should be careful that we don’t over-expect from Mason,” Tuchel said via the official Chelsea website.
Facing Leicester City anew on Tuesday, Chelsea got even against the Foxes, 2-1.
The win enabled them to cop third in the English Premier League, but the German cautioned once more that their job is far from over, the Guardian reported.
Moreover, the victory allowed the Blues to get closer to qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, courtesy of the exploits of Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho.
Looking ahead, their hopes of cracking the top four will depend on several things. One is a must-win game against Tottenham while also hoping that Liverpool wins their final two assignments.
“We have to push it over the line on Sunday. It was full of intensity and hunger and ambition. We played many minutes with a lot of quality for a well-deserved win. It was not the time for celebration. It is not more than three points. There is another one to catch on Sunday. We have to be prepared,” Tuchel stated.
