  • Lampard admit Blues have not made any bid for Kai Havertz
  • Havertz could land with other interested clubs
  • Chelsea may push chase for Havertz once Willian deal runs out

Chelsea FC was quite busy as of late, sealing deals with players whose contracts were about to expire. After getting Willian Borges da Silva to stay on until the end of the domestic season, they were also able to secure Pedro Rodriguez. The Blues will thus have a fully fit squad when they take the field again on Thursday against Manchester City. Only Fikayo Tomori and Callum Hudson-Odoi are questionable.

Beyond that, there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. One of them is the Blues pursuit of Kai Havertz. Frank Lampard gave a broad update on that run with the 42-year-old coach simply referring to the German football player as a top player but added that they have made no formal bid for the services of the 21-year-old midfielder. Aside from Havertz, other players on the Blues' radar include Ben Chilwell and Dean Henderson.

"He's obviously a top player, but to carry on from my answer before I'm certainly not going to comment on other players at other teams. And it cannot be our focus. So, nothing to say," Lampard said. "No. No bids have gone in," he added.

A probable reason this is the remaining budget Lampard has to work with. Like most clubs, lavish spending on players has taken a hit and Chelsea is not spared. Anything can still happen moving forward and it appears the English manager is following a wait-and-see approach. So far, the Blues have already committed $59 million to Timo Werner who is likely to come in by next season.

The Blues are also tipped to be leading the race for Havertz. But if they are not careful, there is a chance the German could end up with another club. Among those who have been linked to the 21-year-old football player include Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. This season, Havertz has accounted for six goals for Bayern Leverkusen.

In a previous post, former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann suggested that Havertz would be a better fit in Chelsea over United. He singled out how the German may want to take into consideration that the Blues are on the upswing and he could be part of that run. Havertz could come in as a replacement for either Willian or Pedro, assuming they bolt Stamford Bridge once their refreshed deals expire. It is likely Lampard will want to see what the two football players will decide once their season is over.

For now, Lampard is focusing on the club's remaining games. They are at fourth spot of the Premier League table, just five points ahead of United.
