  • Chelsea planning to move in on Dean Henderson
  • Henderson could be first-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga could be exiting Chelsea this summer

Chelsea FC has been busy honing up its frontline with the Timo Werner and Kai Havertz linked to Stamford Bridge. However, Frank Lampard wants to address other positions that could use changes. That includes goalkeeping duties, one that revolves around Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero. There are claims that the 42-year-old manager is far from content with the two goalies.

Dean Henderson, someone whose rights belong to Manchester United but has spent the last two seasons at Sheffield United, is reportedly a target. According to the Sun, Chelsea is brewing up something to tempt the 23-year-old goalkeeper to move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are allegedly willing to offer as much as $62 million to woo the English goalie and a chance to be the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Despite playing only one year in the Premier League, Chelsea seems ready to take the risk. So far, Henderson has 11 clean sheets in 28 appearances. In a previous post, it was reported that Sheffield may have caught a break with United and Sheffield have already held talks concerning Henderson but until the end of the season.

Henderson's contract will be expiring soon and a return to Old Trafford looms. Unfortunately, the return may not be a pleasant one. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to continue to rely on David De Gea, meaning Henderson is likely to be the first choice for the Red Devils. Hence, a plausible scenario would be to see Henderson be loaned out once more, likely with Sheffield. But as Chris Wilder pointed out, that decision will be United's call.

That is perhaps what Chelsea is trying to take advantage of. Once the current deal runs out, they will try to pitch for Henderson. But critics will likely raise questions on the move. Caballero signed a fresh lease while Arrizabalaga holds an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

Throughout this season Arrizabalaga faced heavy criticism for his sub-par play. He found himself playing behind Caballero at some point - a move that most felt was a sign of worse things to come. Though Lampard has defended that the 25-year-old understands the move and is adjusting, the current COVID-19 pandemic may force the Blues to try and deal him away. Kepa was acquired in 2018 from Atletico Bilbao for $85 million.
