  • Fosu-Mensah chances of staying with United not looking good
  • Fosu-Mensah health still questioned
  • COVID-19 paralyzes future of Dutch midfielder

Several players with quirky contracts are left in the dark, most wondering if a new deal awaits them. As most know, football action has been indefinitely suspended due to the coronavirus and there is a possibility that the season could be scrapped. Whatever happens, players like Timothy Fosu-Mensah want to know what league officials will decide on so that they can figure out their next move.

The 22-year-old Dutch midfielder was supposed to return to action for Manchester United but plans for that were foiled. He has not been in the first team since May 2017 but it appeared he would be getting that chance back in January. His name was name-checked by Ole Gunnar Solsjaer who was looking for an alternative in the wake of injuries to key players.

And right now, his chances of showing that he has fully healed from a knee injury has been further stalled by the coronavirus pandemic. Further, this means that Fosu-Mensah's next deal is still up in the air since the Red Devils want him to prove first that he has completely recovered from his knee injury, The Daily Mail reported.

So until the football season resumes, Fosu-Mensah will have to rest up and prepare to show Solskjaer that he is good to go. It has been quite a while since the 22-year-old got that chance. He made his debut for United back in 2016, a 3-2 win over Arsenal. This was the same time when Marcus Rashford debuted for the Red Devils as well. But things just took a different turn since then. He found himself loaned to Crystal Palace and Fulham. Worse, it was during his stint with the Cottagers where he suffered the knee injury.

For someone who many saw had potential, Fosu-Mensah has just run into a string of bad luck. He had chances to show he could still play at a high level when he played 148 minutes across two games for United U23s in Premier League 2. He has yet to get the chance for a senior matchday squad and the wait has been undoubtedly frustrating, the Manchester Evening News reported.

With his contract up at the end of June, it remains to be seen of Fosu-Mensah will still get the chance to show Solskjaer and the rest that he deserves a spot on the club. He had erratic performances while on loan, something that could further harm his chances. All he can do now is hope the football action restarts somehow and Solskjaer gives him the chance to show what he has got.
