  • David Luiz likely to re-sign with Arsenal for next season
  • Mikel Arteta keen on keeping David Luiz
  • Mikel Arteta focuses on improving player left to their fold

Arsenal FC overlooked a key piece in the contract of David Luiz, that of which was activating the clause for another season. That raised a lot of questions on whether the Gunners intended to keep the Brazilian football player. But it appears Mikel Arteta is trying to do everything to keep him at Emirates Stadium.

One thing going for Arteta is that he has struck it well with Luiz. Now, the focus is on convincing the 33-year-old to stay with the Gunners. According to Luiz's agent in a report from Sky Sports, Kia Joorabchian, the chances of his client staying at Emirates Stadium has a high chance of happening.

"I am really happy with David, I want to keep him here with us. He's been a key role model since I joined," Arteta said. "I like what he produces on the pitch, I like his influence around the players and the club - I would love to keep him."

Keeping Arteta makes a lot of sense considering the Gunners have not been spared from financial difficulties. The 38-year-old coach admits that some of his transfer plans may not pan out, forcing him to focus on the improvement of players current with Arsenal FC.

The financial burden is real for Arsenal. One of their targets is Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid. Los Indios is now open to dealing with the Ghanaian player although both sides will need to discuss the financial package. Atletico is asking $56.7 million for Partey. However, they are also open to lowering that amount for as long as it is reasonable. Atletico Madrid is dealing away Partey to get some flexibility by the next transfer window.

As for Luiz, Arteta has little things to worry about since the Brazilian has adapted to his system. A finalized deal should happen soon, allowing the Spanish coach to address other players on the fold. Among the players, he will need to work with includes William Saliba who is wrapping up a loan deal with Saint Etienne.

Pablo Mari is also possibly coming in from Flamengo. But another big name Arteta needs to settle is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. According to the Gabon captain, both sides have been in negotiations for months now. He too could finally see an end to contract concerns even though he still has 12 months left in his current deal.
