KEY POINTS

  • United has not offered a contract to Ighalo
  • Ighalo is not rushing contract talks
  • Ighalo is leaving football playing options open

As far as Odion Ighalo is concerned, his options remain open. Most felt that the 30-year-old was more likely to stay with Manchester United for the rest of the way, hinting his contract with Chinese Super League Shanghai Shenhua would likely be bought out. As of this writing, the Nigerian striker reveals he has not gotten any new deal and he understands why.

First off, Ighalo knows that he still has a live contract with United that will only lapse once the current season concludes. And while other teams are also locking up their main stars, Ighalo is in no rush and knows that anything can happen from now until that season-closing announcement comes. In short, he plans to cross that bridge once that time comes.

For now, he revealed through Elegbete TV that he has not been offered anything. He also adds that a decision like that is not easy to make. He follows certain guidelines and seeks some help from God before making his next big move.

"There is no offer on the table yet because the season is still on, I've not finished my loan deal," Ighalo said. "I don't just take decisions alone in my life. I have a principle and I have a guideline for everything I do. I always pray to God to direct me."

Ighalo admits that he has seen the social media rants on his status. Some feel he should stick with the Red Devils while others are calling for him to return to China. Throughout all that, he has not muttered anything since he does not want to say anything. But he made it clear that these rants will not influence his decision once contracts are on the table.

"You don't just rush and do things: 'I'm going here, I'm going here.' I have to sit down and finish the season well, sit down with my agent, see what's on the ground: 'A, B, C, D, is on the ground. Okay we have to pick.'"

In a previous post, it seemed that Ighalo was a sure addition to the cause of United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But with most concerned about the problems that the COVID-19 pandemic has been causing, Ighalo's future may have to wait. For now, it would be best for him to stay indoors which is the best way for him to help in the coronavirus fight.
