KEY POINTS

  • Bellingham has been urged to choose Dortmund over United by his dad
  • Bellingham can follow Sancho's success
  • Red Devils can try to get Bellingham after several years

Manchester United has been widely linked to rising young star Jude Bellingham. However, it appears that their chances of landing the 16-year-old midfielder may fall short.

Borussia Dortmund is seen as the more plausible choice, a place where the teenager can further hone his skills. Now even Jude's father, Mark Bellingham, has urged his son to pick Die Borussen and follow the path that Jadon Sancho has taken. Ironically, United has also been linked to a big-time move to Sancho possibly in the summer.

According to a report from the Mirror, the elder Bellingham believes playing for Dortmund first would be best since he will be getting more playing time there. The Red Devils are filled with talent, meaning Jude is unlikely to get his share of football action. Aside from that, a move to Old Trafford may hinder his development moving forward.

Though Dortmund seems to have the inside track on Bellingham, such has not stopped United from trying to swing a deal. The Red Devils are likely to try and sway the midfielder to Old Trafford via lucrative perks. They already tried to rock the boat last March when they invited the teenager to the Carrington training base. There, Bellingham was able to meet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the flesh. Aside from that, he also got the chance to meet former manager Sir Alex Fergusson. That seemed to give United the edge but some camps feel otherwise.

The latest on Bellingham is that he has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Dortmund. But until an official deal is sealed, the Red Devils will continue to pull strings even if their chances are not looking that good.

United has slowed down its recruitment process following the resolution to Odion Ighalo's loan deal. It is believed that United is bracing for a big-time deal involving Sancho - the same guy that the father of Jude Bellingham wants his son to follow. The Red Devils may fall short in its pursuit of Bellingham, something that could turn out to be good. The soon-to-be 17-year-old football player has plenty of room for improvement, something he can discover at Westfalenstadion. Given some more years, the Red Devils could try again. However, they need to offer something bigger - possibly more than what Sancho is worth right now.
