  • Kepa has no rift with Lampard
  • Kepa not leaving Blues
  • Kepa looking forward to resumption of football action

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been through a rough couple of months with Chelsea FC with some even speculating that he could be on the move. But the 25-year-old goalkeeper reveals that all is good. He understands what message Frank Lampard was trying to send across to the whole team and he is supporting that directive.

This is despite Kepa starting 2020 on the wrong foot. With his performance below par, Lampard opted to go with Willy Caballero who started in five of Chelsea's last seven matches. The move of the Blues coach was not spared from criticism, most believing the hefty $90 million investment they made on the Spanish goalkeeper was going to waste. Worse, most felt it would only be a matter of time before Kepa would seek a release and play elsewhere. Much of this was covered in a previous post.

Fast-forward to the future and it appears all is now well between Kepa and Lampard. The Spanish goalkeeper was inserted back to the starting line-up in March where he has recorded clean sheets ever since. This included performances in the FA Cup against Liverpool and Everton. He went on to say that insinuations that there is a rift between him and Lampard are entirely not true.

"The relationship with Frank is very good," Kepa told Marca. "He has shown me confidence from the first moment. He must make decisions, but I feel I have his confidence, both his and that of the whole club. We all like to play in every game."

Looking ahead, Kepa knows that he needs to maintain his new level of play for Chelsea if he is to keep his post. He singled out how they have to play 50 to 60 games in a year and how it would be difficult to stay at that level.

"The only thing that can be done, in these cases, is to take it professionally, respectfully, and work harder to turn it around," Kepa said.

With a renewed drive, Blues fans will be looking forward to how long Kepa can maintain his level of play. The Spaniard is one of many players eagerly awaiting the restart of football action which could kick off once more in June but behind closed doors.

"We are waiting and it will be decided with the health of everyone in mind. If the Premier returns soon, it will be a good sign that the pandemic is being controlled," Kepa said.
