Premier League Rumors: No Transfer Deals On The Table Yet, Coutinho Agent Says
KEY POINTS
- Coutinho transfer not happening anytime soon
- Coutinho agent says no transfer talks have happened yet
- Coutinho likely moving with Barca avoiding further payments to The Reds
Seeing Philippe Coutinho back in action when the league resumes remains uncertain but that has not stopped the transfer rumor mill from buzzing. The Brazilian is recovering from an ankle surgery done during the COVID-19 break although reports claim that he will not miss any game. Coutinho needs 14 days of rest before he can play once more for Bayern Munich.
Coutinho is currently on loan and there is talk that he could be headed back to Liverpool, his former team. The 27-year-old spent six years with The Reds and was a fan favorite. That run ended in 2018 when Barcelona acquire him in January 2018 for £142 million. Now, there are murmurs that Barca is open to dealing with him once more with Chelsea and Liverpool among the teams interested.
Aware of the buzz going on, Coutinho's agent touched on the matter in a report from talkSport. Kia Joorabchian explained the situation of his client. Though it was initially believed he would not miss games in Bundesliga, the sudden restart has altered plans. He says that Coutinho could miss a chunk of games since he is only six weeks into recovery. However, he added that the 27-year-old will likely return towards the tail-end of the season.
About the transfer rumors, Joorabchian said that no deal is on the table. They have not spoken to anyone about any deals. He added that the focus right now is the COVID-19 pandemic and how the season can restart. As far as possible deals, he believes that any moves (not limited to Coutinho) will crop up once everything is back to normal.
"I think the transfer side of things and where he will go or where people will go will come into play down the line when things have got back to some sort of normality," Joorabchian said.
A Coutinho transfer could be imminent since Barca is trying to avoid paying more fees to Liverpool moving forward. There was a clause where Barcelona would have to pay The Reds extra money if he reached 100 appearances. Blaugrana would need to pay Liverpool an additional $22 million, just one of several add-ons in place, The Times reported.
For now, Coutinho needs to get back into shape once he is cleared to do football-related activities. But once he does play, there is a lingering possibility he may be dealt away. So far, it boils down to either Chelsea or Liverpool. The teams in play could bloat once football action is officially back in action. Much of this was covered in a previous post.
