Premier League Rumors: Red Devils Ready To Cash In On Werner After Liverpool Talks Stall
KEY POINTS
- Red Devils target Timo Werner
- Liverpool may pass on Werner due to financial issues
- Werner coudl be utilized better at Manchester United
Even though it made no sense, Liverpool has been linked to Timo Werner of RB Leipzig. But with the financial constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, all those plans could be shelved. Now, Manchester United is keeping tabs of the situation and may enter the fray.
Despite owning a talented offensive group, most were left wondering why The Reds would still want Werner to the club. The 24-year-old has been having a fine season, scoring 24 goals in 28 appearances in the Bundesliga. But a move to Anfield could mean a different role for the German striker. He may have to compete for a place in the starting group unless Klopp has plans to demote anyone from among Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Robert Firmino.
Given that scenario, ESPN reports that Manchester United has been alerted of the scenario and is now keeping tabs on the Werner situation. Compared to Liverpool, the chances of the German being part of the regular team seem better. Better yet, they do have the financials to support a potential Werner coming.
The interest in Werner by the Red Devils also makes sense. United has been linked to several names like Jadon Sancho but wants to spend wisely. Sancho is expected to command a hefty fee to move to Old Trafford.
As for Werner, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company will still try to negotiate for a better deal. RB Leipzig is asking roughly $61.8 million for the 24-year-old. Solskjaer has been assured by management that they have funds to take in high profile players but negotiating a better deal agreeable to both sides could seal the deal.
Aside from Werner and Sancho, United has been linked to several names as of late. Among the players mentioned include Jack Grealish of Aston Villa. The Red Devils are believed to be looking at these options if the loan deal of Odion Ighalo fails to materialize. But it appears that Shanghai Shenhua is willing to cooperate although they have one condition in place. According to Sky Sports, Ighalo will have to sign a new deal with Shenhua first with the Chinese Club. Once he does, he can stay with United until January.
In a previous post, it was mentioned that Ighalo may not make it in time to return to China anyway with strict measures in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic.
