Premier League Rumors: Willian Could Get His Long-Term Deal But At Old Trafford

The future of Willian Borges da Silva is still up in the air, but a club has made its move on the Brazilian football player. Manchester United has reportedly touched base with the Willian camp, something that could lead to a possible signing after this season.

The contract of Willian will lapse on June 30. The Brazilian initially said he would be open to signing a short-term deal but backpedaled afterward alongside Pedro Rodriguez. Both are now reluctant to sign a temporary deal, concerned about incurring potential injuries during that tenure. Much of that was discussed in a previous post.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Chelsea and Willian were already at odds. The latter wanted a three-year deal after this season but the Blues were only willing to hand him two. Nothing has changed since then and the financial burden that most clubs are facing right now is likely to dim those past negotiations. Hence, Willian and Pedro are expected to most likely go, a reason why Frank Lampard is aggressively considering other players to fill their spot.

With regards to Willian, the chances of him leaving Stamford Bridge have now grown larger. According to France Football, United have touched base with Willian and his agent, Kia Joorabchian. This officially registered their interest in the Brazilian although it was not mentioned if the Red Devils would be granting Willian's three-year demand.

Both sides are likely to discuss those terms in the coming week. There were other teams interested in Willian like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Of the two clubs, the Spanish giants were also reportedly hesitant to give Willian a three-year contract.

Should Willian and the Red Devils come to terms, his experience will help out players like Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. Also, it should be noted that since Willian's contract is expiring, he will be recruited for free.

The key thing here is the longevity of the contract. United could give him a longer deal but with a different financial package. Willian is aware of the financial difficulties facing most teams right now. However, both sides could strike up something which may result in the Brazilian suiting up at Old Trafford next season.
