  • Willian playing out season, hoping for new contract
  • Chelsea still deciding on Willian fate
  • Arsenal, Tottenham intereted in Willian

Willian Borges da Silva has yet to get some clarity on his future but the Brazilian is not about to make a big deal out of it. The 31-year-old winger is open to playing beyond July for Chelsea FC with the season likely to be extended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Willian only has three-and-a-half months left in his current deal with the Blue and an extension has yet to crop up, Goal.com reported. He was already offered to remain in west London until 2022 but the Brazilian is pushing for an additional year. Negotiations could happen moving forward but that will not stop the midfielder from fulfilling his current obligation with the Blues.

Willian has enjoyed success in Chelsea since joining them back in 2013. He has appeared in 300 games thus far which includes two Premier League winners' medals. His age could be a reason behind the holdout and the COVID-19 pandemic just complicated his predicament. Like other leagues, there is a chance that the season could be scrapped, leaving Willian in a very peculiar situation.

“My contract ends, I think in July," Willian said to Esporte Interativo via Facebook chat. “And if I had to play on those dates, in these months, I think it would be no problem for me to end the league in a way which would be loyal to the club, as they always were with me. Regardless of a signed paper," he added.

Hence, expect Willian to be among the closely monitored players once the coronavirus pandemic starts to die down. Along with the rest of the Chelsea squad, the Brazilian has been forced into self-isolation ever since Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for COVID-19.

Like most of the world, Willian shared that the instructions given to them are pretty similar. Stay at home and go out only when they need to buy the usual necessities. If Chelsea were to discover them leaving or disobeying orders, a fine would be imposed on players who would.

As for his future, Wilian will just have to wait and see. He has been linked to a potential transfer to Arsenal and Tottenham but so far, all these have been nothing more than rumors.
